How to Sketch A Pointy Lapel Jacket by Precious Apparel

Do you know that the pointy shoulder can be rocked on other styles that’s not a jacket? Like cut together bustier… let your creativity guide you.

This mall clover lapel drafting or sketching should be studied carefully and practiced before sewing.

This illustration is strictly for advanced fashion designers. Intermediate designers save it for later.

Note: add 1.5 inches to the exact shoulder, bust and waist.

Required measurements

  1. Shoulder
  2. Jacket length
  3. Bust
  4. Waist
  5. Hip
  6. Sleeve length
  7. Round sleeve

How to Draft or Sketch A Pointy Shoulder Mall Clover Lapel Jacket by Precious Apparel



  • Draft or sketch A Full Scale Block
  • Extend the Center front by 1.5″ or as Prefered

To plot a clover mall lapel, go in by 0.5″ on the neck width (optional)

  • Determine the break point
  • Come down by 2″ from the neck depth and draw a slant line
  • The mall clover can be extended by 3″ from the button line.


  • Extend the Neck line by the Back neck width. Come out by 0.5″ and use a curve to plot.

Extend the collar by 4″ or 5″

  • Plot the collar as shown. Ploy the princess seam line for front and back. Extend the dart leg.
  • The pointy shoulder.

Extend the shoulder tip by 3″ or 4″. It can be shaped as preferred.

  • Extend and connect to the armhole as shown.
  • Front Pattern Set.

Note that the collar can be cut

  • Back Pattern Set

Draft a basic sleeve block

  • Place the front pattern and mark from shoulder tip to shoulder slope
  • Re plot the sleeve head as shown

  • Patten Set
  • For a fuller/exaggerated look, the main bodies can be extended around the armhole as shown.
