How To Sew Aso Oke Fabric
Dear Sew mates, you know aso oke is trending and as fashion designers most of us wants to try our hands on it.
Here are helpful tips that will guide you when working on this unique and beautiful fabric.
We have different types of aso oke fabric just like we have The Ghana Kente, we have aso oke that is made for gele / head wear.
We have Asooke silk and cotton that is used for making a complete outfit… these type doesn’t have joining and the come in yards.
Incase you got the one that frays try these tips 👇
✅ use soldering iron to cut fraying aso oke.
The disadvantages of using a soldering iron is that it causes smoke 💨
You need to add extra care ❤️
✅ You can also press hair-stay interfacing immediately after cutting aso oke.. it sticks to the edges and prevent it from fraying but you need steam pressing iron and loads of patience to do this ❤️
✅ Lining – you can use any silk or satin lining of your choice.
You can also use original cotton lining.
✅ Sewing tips – to avoid bulky seam allowance by the side trim off excesses.
✅ Use size 18 Needle 🪡
✅ Press every seam line as you sew.
This is most important – you can press hair stay strips to the sides, hem lines, sleeve hems, armholes to prevent fraying if you don’t want to use the inter facing on all the fabric.
Please this last one is just what I do personally- press the Asooke first before you cut.
I hope this few tips are helpful and it encourages you to sew more of aso Oke ❤️
